Guide to Etiquette
Sheffield City Trust strives to ensure a safe and enjoyable experience for all of our customers.
When using the facilities, please be mindful of others and adhere to these etiquette rules. Any members who do not adhere to these rules may be asked to leave the building and the membership may be withdrawn.
We request that:
- You respect all signage and notices that relate to safety and practical guidelines on equipment use
- Where required, security bands must be worn on your wrist at all times during a session – these can be obtained from the reception area
- You wear appropriate sports clothing when undertaking any physical activityi.e. t-shirt, tracksuit bottoms, shorts, vest, trainers and crop tops. Denim, sandals, shoes, kickers, boots, barefoot and dress wear are not permitted at any time
- All rubbish and bottles should be placed in the bins provided
- Excessive use of mobile phones in the gym and changing areas are prohibited
- You only eat in the designated areas of the centre
We advise that:
- Verbal and physical abuse towards staff and other customers will not be tolerated and will result in eviction from the premises
- Customers under the influence of alcohol or drugs do not take part in any physical activity and that they may be asked to leave the building
- The use of cameras and camera phones are not permitted within the premises
Fitness Etiquette
We request that:
- You complete an induction before using the gym
- You maintain your own personal hygiene before entering the gym
- You use a towel and ensure you wipe down machines and stations after usage
- At busy periods you are considerate and limit your usage of equipment to 20 minutes
- Free weights are kept in the designated training areas and you return them to the racks provided
- You refrain from making unnecessary noise which may cause other members to feel uncomfortable
- You only use one piece of equipment at any one time and refrain from resting on pieces of equipment
- You do not bring personal belongings and bags into the gym
- At times when under 16s are able to use the gym, they are accompanied by a competent adult (accompanied by either a pay as you go adult or adult member). Under 16s must refrain from using resistance equipment and fitness classes.
We advise that:
- You keep hydrated before, during and after your workout, however please use the water fountains or bring a plastic bottle and refrain from using glass bottles, cups or anything that may easily spill.
- You do not try to modify the equipment as this may cause damage. Any misuse of equipment or the facilities which causes damage or put others at risk may result in termination of membership
- Use spotters and collars when using the heavier free weights
- Spectators are not allowed in the gym
Fitness Class Etiquette
We request that:
- You ensure that you cancel your place if you are unable to attend
- Arrive for the class in plenty of time as the instructor has the right to refuse entry once the class has started
We advise that:
- All class places are issued on a first come first served basis. Booking is advisable
- You ensure that you wear suitable clothing and supportive footwear
- Inform the instructor prior commencement if you are new to the class or if you have any injuries / illnesses that may affect your ability to take part.
- Adhere to the coaching from the instructor at all times.
Swimming Etiquette
We request that:
- You record your swimming attendance at a reception point and wear the appropriate band
- You listen to the lifeguards - they are there for your safety
- You follow the directional signage displayed in lane swimming sessions
- You respect other pool users
We advise that:
- Each centre has a clothing policy. Anyone wishing to wear items other than a standard costume will need to consult with the Duty Manager - please ask for them at reception. Failure to gain permission could result in you being asked to leave the pool.
- Snorkels, flippers, facemasks etc are not permitted in public sessions
Pool Safety Guidelines
Following recommendations from the ISRM, Sheffield City Trust adhere to the following guidelines. Each centre has a under 8's policy whoch states that:
- Children aged 4 to 7 must be accompanied on a one to two basis at all times by a responsible person aged 16 or over
- Children aged 3 and under must be accompanied on a one to one basis at all times by a responsible person aged 16 or over
- Some centres do provide opportunities for those people who struggle to meet these ratios. We ask that you contact the venue to ask for details, otherwise please adhere to the ratios set out within this document.
